Philly Cheesesteak Perfection: A Step-by-Step Guide to the Iconic Sandwich

The Pennsylvanian classic street food, the Philly Cheesesteak. Juicy, salty, and delicious, some would argue there’s no better sandwich. Making this sandwich at home is super easy, especially if your range has a built-in griddle like the Monogram Freestanding Range we used! To make a Philly cheesesteak for yourself, you’ll need:

  1. With your griddle on medium-high heat, oil a section of the griddle and add your diced onions.
  2. Keep your onions moving around while cooking until the edges start to turn a golden caramel brown and the middle becomes slightly translucent.
  3. Move the onions to the side of the griddle and add the shaved beef where the onions were just cooking. This is going to transfer some of that delicious caramelized onion flavour into the beef while it cooks.
  4. While the beef cooks, use the edge of your griddle spatula to cut the shaved beef into smaller pieces.
  5. Once the beef is almost done cooking, move it off to the side and mix it in with your onions.
  6. Add the butter to the griddle where the beef was cooking and put a cut hoagie roll onto the butter to toast the cut faces.
  7. After the bun has toasted, move the meat and onions back to the middle of the griddle and top with 2 slices of provolone cheese.
  8. Cover the meat, onions, and cheese with an inverted cake pan or metal bowl and add a small squirt of water to steam the cheese.
  9. Once the cheese has melted, put the bun on top of the mix and carefully use your griddle spatula to flip everything into the bun and enjoy!
